Protected Species Surveys

I suspect that protected species may be affected by my plans, what should I do?

Corvus Consulting carry out targeted protected species surveys throughout the UK and Ireland.

Our ecologists are trained in survey techniques for the following species, all regularly encountered on potential development sites.
Badger

Bats (all species)

Otter

Brown Hare

Irish Hare

Red Squirrel

Pine Marten

Red Squirrel

Birds

Vascular Plants

Viviparous Lizard

Smooth Newt

All these species regularly occur on development sites and the protection they are afforded varies according to species.

Corvus are experts in assessing sites for the presence or otherwise of these species and determining the implications for each particular project.

See also our mitigation page for details of mitigation of the effects of development on the ecology of protected species.

Often, licences are required for mitigation programmes to be implemented. Should this be the case, Corvus will handle your licence application, including negotiation and liaison with statutory authorities, providing a convenient single point of contact for individuals or organisations.

Often, recognised survey techniques may not be applicable to a particular site due to access, visibility or other constraints. In these cases a survey solution will be custom tailored to site requirements and all methodologies agreed with statutory bodies before surveys commence.

Corvus have extensive experience in customised survey design and implementation.

Badgers, bats and lizards commonly constrain development projects. Contrary to popular belief, the presence of these species on site does not preclude development entirely. Corvus can advise you on the bast course of action to take in any given situation.
